“A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, ‘Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.’'
— 2 Kings 4:1 (NKJV)
The story in 2 Kings 4 transformed how I view debt, provision, and overflow. It’s the story of a widow who was drowning in debt, facing the loss of her two sons to slavery. And instead of handing her money, God gave her an instruction. And hidden inside that instruction was her deliverance.
This isn’t just about finances. It’s about alignment, identity, and stepping into the natural ability God placed in you from the very beginning: the ability to multiply.
The Widow’s Story: A Blueprint for Breakthrough
This woman was in a full-blown crisis:
Her husband, a prophet, had died. The creditors were threatening to enslave her children. She had nothing left but a tiny jar of oil.
Her situation reminds me of seasons in my own life where I felt like I had nothing left to give, nothing to offer — when I lost my business, when the strategies failed, and when I couldn’t see a way forward. Can you relate?
And here’s what hit me: before God multiplied anything, He gave her an instruction.
And maybe you're in a similar situation-maybe you need God to give you a financial downfall, or even a trinkle of something to get you out of a bind, just enough to get your head above water?
But, here's what happened- Elisha says in verse 3:
“Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.” It made no sense. But obedience always comes before overflow.
Here's what I learned and what God had to teach me; disobedience will trump everything when it comes to God. And if you are out of alignment with His plans and purpose-and who you were created to be in Christ Jesus- it's hard to obey Him. But, this is how God gets our attention! And just like the widow woman, He got her attention so He could help her to multiply what she had in her household.
See, God wants to get the glory out of your life too. So, if you are focused on how to make money, or even how to increase what you have, God will use your situation to draw you back to Himself. And here's the truth...it won't get better until you do.
Deuteronomy 8 says to remember the Lord your God.
"And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. 3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word[a] that comes from the mouth of the Lord."
God isn't trying to keep you from a financial downpour-but what we need is in Him. So, if you find yourself on the outside wishing, hoping for that big breakthrough...it won't come, not until you surrender, and get back in line with Him.
And I get it, that's not what I wanted to hear either...but in order for you or I to get anything from God, whether it's money, understanding, or peace. It will not come until you surrender whatever you have going on that has taken your peace, over to the Lord and ask for direction.
But, here's the good news! You can choose life today...and begin to receive what's rightfully yours as a Daughter of the King. Not just for you...but for your descendants too, God isn't the type of Father to give you just enough. No, He want's you and your legacy to live in the overflow of multiplication.
Sis, God's in this for a lifetime....so choose life!
"I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore, you shall choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants..."
-Deuteronomy 30:19
Here is God’s Three-Step Blueprint for Deliverance
Don’t hide the lack. Don’t hustle harder. Invite Him into the empty places.
- Obey the Stretching Instruction
Borrowing empty vessels didn’t make sense, but obedience activated multiplication.
- Break Agreements with Bondage
God’s order was clear: pay the debts first, then live on the rest. Freedom comes before overflow.
You’re Wired to Multiply
When God created you, He hardwired multiplication into your design. It’s not something you earn; it’s part of your identity. (Ephesians 1:3)
The problem comes when we try to multiply without alignment. That’s when striving, burnout, and frustration take over. But when you align with His order, the oil in your life begins to flow effortlessly. But, you must break limiting beliefs from your life in order for it to flow.
3 Key Takeaways
⦁ Obedience Unlocks Multiplication – Sometimes God’s strategy starts where it feels hardest: debt, forgiveness, or surrender.
⦁ Your Power to Multiply Is Already In You – It’s not about striving; it’s about alignment.
⦁ Break the Limiting Agreements – The enemy will always challenge your growth. But when you repent, realign, and walk in truth, no curse can land.
Breaking Limiting Beliefs:
Maybe you’ve believed:
“I’ll always be in debt.”
“I don’t have enough.”
“This oil isn’t enough to matter.”
"The only way to get ahead is to rely on my own wisdom and effort."
Those are agreements with lack — and God is breaking them today. When you repent, realign, and walk in His truth, then you're in line to receive.
God’s blueprint hasn’t changed:
- Go to God and ask for understanding (Psalms 139:23-24)
- Ask where have you stopped trusting God-when it comes to finances, debt, limiting beliefs? (Isaiah 26:3 )
- Confess your sins, repent & break agreement with those limiting beliefs (1 John 1:9)
- Receive His forgiveness and Love (1 John 1:9)
- Take authority and command limiting beliefs; etc. to go under the Blood of Jesus (Luke 10:19)
- Sever ungodly soul-ties with past seasons of lack (3 John 1:2)
- Confess over your identity DAILY in Christ: I am an Overcomer, I am a Daughter of the King, I am Chosen, I am Redeemed...
- Ask for a FRESH infilling of the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Spirit leads to increased joy, peace, and a transformed character that increasingly reflects Christ's. (Ephesians 5:18-20)
- Journal your experiences and the changes that are taking place within your heart and mind.
Final Thoughts and Your Next Steps

About Me + Brand Story
Hi, I’m Idina—a Kingdom entrepreneur, Holy Spirit-led coach, and voice of truth called to help women heal, rediscover their God-given identity, and build with clarity and excellence. My story is one of surrender, faith, and resilience. I know what it’s like to strive for validation, tie myself to the wrong people, and face the pain of misplaced trust—even within the church. But God healed me, restored my voice, and taught me how to build from a place of wholeness and Kingdom alignment to build healthy relationships with Him and with others.
